I. MUSIC

1. DEPARTMENT OF HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL VOCAL MUSIC

 

The department offers two major subjects of study:

 

a) Hindustani Classical Vocal – Khayal

 

b) Hindustani Semi-Classical Vocal – Thumri, Bhajans etc.

 

 

2. DEPARTMENT OF HINDUSTANI CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

 

The department offers three subjects (instruments) of study:

 

a) Sarod     b) Sitar     c) Tabla

 

 

II. DANCE

3. DEPARTMENT OF KATHAK DANCE

 

The department offers training in two styles of Kathak – Jaipur Gharana and Lucknow Gharana

 

 

4. DEPARTMENT OF BHARATANATYAM

 

The department offers training in the Kalakshetra style of the dance

 

 

5. DEPARTMENT OF ODISSI DANCE

 

The department offers training in Kelucharan Mohapatra style of the dance

 

 

6. DEPARTMENT OF CHHAU DANCE

 

The department offers training in the Mayurbhanj style of the dance

 

 

7. DEPARTMENT OF DANCE DRAMA

 

The department imparts training in the style of dance drama evolved by the Kendra for over 65 years based on different dance forms and performance traditions of India.

Updates
The prestigious SUMITRA CHARAT RAM AWARD for Lifetime Achievement for 2017 will be presented to the eminent Hindustani vocalist Smt Girija Devi (posthumously) on 17 November 2017 in Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. The Award was decided by the Governing Council of the Kendra in the month of August and was accepted by Girija Devi ji. Due to her sad demise meanwhile on October 24, the award will be received by her daughter Dr Sudha Datta (Munni ji). The Award will be presented by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon'ble Minister of State(I/C), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India at a special function on 17 November at 6.45 pm. The presentation ceremony will be followed by a musical tribute by disciples of the late Smt Girija Devi. All are welcome.
