During the last sixty years some thousands of Artists have participtated and contributed to the Kendra’s repertory in varying capacities – Choreographers, Music Composers, Script Writers, Set designers, Light designers and of course, as Dancers. Some of the notable names are as under:

Resident Choreographer

Raj Kumar Sharma is the resident choreographer of the Kendra’s repertory since 2012. Trained in Chhau dance in the Kendra and in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, Rajkumar also learnt martial arts techniques of Kalaripayattu and Makhumb of Kerala, Kathak dance techiniques in Birju Maharaj’s workshops and contemporary dance techniques under Daksha Sheth and Astad Debu. He developed his dancing skills by performing in groups of eminent dancers and choreographers.

 

However, it is under the mentorship of Shobha Deepak Singh that he was groomed as an excellent dancer and a talented choreographer in the distinctive dance drama style of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra. He has played key roles in several of Kendra’s productions, especially as Ram in ‘Shri Ram’ and as Krishna in ‘Shri Krishna’.

 

 

Resident Music Director

Biswajeet Roy Chowdhary, eminent Sarod maestro and Senior Guru in Kendra’s Classical Instrumental Music department is providing guidance and support to the repertory as its resident music director. Besides creating music for productions like Dance of Shiva and Tripurantak, he has been maintaining and developing the music of all the live productions of the repertory, including its iconic presentations - ‘Shri Ram’ and ‘Shri Krishna’.

The prestigious SUMITRA CHARAT RAM AWARD for Lifetime Achievement for 2017 will be presented to the eminent Hindustani vocalist Smt Girija Devi (posthumously) on 17 November 2017 in Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. The Award was decided by the Governing Council of the Kendra in the month of August and was accepted by Girija Devi ji. Due to her sad demise meanwhile on October 24, the award will be received by her daughter Dr Sudha Datta (Munni ji). The Award will be presented by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon'ble Minister of State(I/C), Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India at a special function on 17 November at 6.45 pm. The presentation ceremony will be followed by a musical tribute by disciples of the late Smt Girija Devi. All are welcome.
